Grass cutting for houses in Alberta
Cancellation
Last updated October 28, 2026. These are the terms I use. They do not remove a right that Alberta or federal law does not let you give up.
You can cancel by any method that reaches me, including phone or email. If you do not hand me the notice in person, it counts when you send it. Say that you want to cancel and which house it concerns.
Before I start
A one-time cut can be cancelled at no charge before I leave for the house. Once I have started the cut, it can be billed if I cut the open area. If a locked gate means I cannot cut anything, you are not billed.
A weekly grass plan is 4 cuts in a calendar month, and a biweekly grass plan is 2 cuts. Either can be cancelled before the first cut of that month for a refund of that month. After a cut in that month, that month is not refunded under this business rule. A later month is not charged unless I invoice it.
If I cannot attend
I always attempt a booked cut. I may delay a visit, or be unable to do part of it, when roads are closed, I am ill, equipment fails, or the property cannot be reached safely. In those cases I try to contract that portion out, and you are not charged extra for that. If it is not contracted out, you are not billed for that portion. If you already paid, I refund the published rate for the part that was not cut.
Internet bookings over $50
When a booking over $50 is formed by email or other text on the internet, you also have the cancellation rights in the Internet Sales Contract Regulation. You can cancel from the day of the contract until 7 days after you receive a copy if I did not disclose the required contract information, or if I did not let you accept, decline, and correct errors immediately before the booking. You can cancel within 30 days after the contract if I do not give you a copy within 15 days.
You can also cancel before the work starts if I do not start within 30 days after the start date we agreed. If we did not agree on a start date, those 30 days run from the day the booking was confirmed. I will honour a cancellation sent before I start.
A cancellation under that regulation ends the booking as if it had not been made. I refund everything you paid under it within 15 days. That statutory refund is not cut down to unused credits or unused months. A court may refuse a cancellation that would be unfair.
In person, away from my business
A normal booking starts from your request on this site, or from email or phone. It is not a door-to-door sale. If instead we negotiate or conclude the contract in person somewhere other than my place of business, such as at your home, and the price is more than $25, it is a direct sales contract. You can cancel it for any reason until 10 days after you receive the written copy. If that last day is a holiday, including a Sunday, the time runs until the next day that is not a holiday. I refund all money paid within 15 days after that cancellation. The written copy will include the cancellation statement required by Alberta's Direct Sales Cancellation and Exemption Regulation.
Taking payment before a job is finished does not, by itself, make a website or email booking a door-to-door contract. The 10-day right applies when the contract is made in person, away from my place of business.
The refunds page explains how money is returned. An unfair practice under the Consumer Protection Act keeps the remedies in that Act.
